# SIL rostering

> How to use location rosters for NDIS Supported Independent Living (SIL) housing

Location rosters in Visualcare support rostering for NDIS Supported Independent Living (SIL) housing, including both short-term and long-term arrangements. SIL rostering uses the same location roster functionality as group activities, with specific considerations for housing environments.

## Setting up for SIL rostering

SIL rostering uses the location roster. Before you begin, you need:

1. **A location profile** for the house or accommodation - go to **Maintenance** → **Location Profile** to create one. See [Group activity rostering](/scheduling/group-activity-rostering) for detailed setup steps
2. **Client profiles** added to the location profile under the **Clients** tab, so residents are linked to the house
3. **Client agreements** with the relevant NDIS SIL service items

<Tip>Adding clients to the location profile under the **Clients** tab means their profiles appear on the Vworker app for all worker shifts at that location. This is especially useful for SIL, where workers need access to resident information.</Tip>

## Creating SIL rosters

To create a SIL roster:

1. Go to **Operations** → **Location Roster**
2. Click **Create New Location Roster** and select the SIL house profile
3. Click **Add**, then **View** to open the roster

For best practice, use one roster per location profile. This keeps all shifts for that house in one place.

## Rostering SIL shifts

SIL shifts typically involve multiple workers covering the house across different times of day. Use the **Add multi person appointment** to roster workers and clients together, or add single person appointments when clients have different service codes.

For detailed instructions on creating and editing location roster shifts, see [Group activity rostering](/scheduling/group-activity-rostering).

### Linking workers to clients

In SIL settings, linking workers to specific clients helps communicate care assignments through the Vworker and vAboutMe apps. Use the **Link Clients** button in the roster view to assign workers to their designated residents.

<Note>Linked shifts cannot be edited directly. Remove the link first, make your changes, then re-link.</Note>

## NDIS ratios

NDIS SIL services often involve specific worker-to-client ratios. Keep these ratios in mind when adding workers and clients to location roster shifts.
